Today’s Foodism: Food, Please Be Kind

Michael Palin

Before every meal—breakfast, lunch, dinner or snack—I say a prayer. I ask God to remove any impurities that may harm my body from the meal which I am about to tuck into. No one goes into a food-borne illness willingly and with arms open wide. This is not an advocation of prayer—you can work that out between yourself and whomever you choose to worship and pray to. It’s simply a statement of my reality in how I deal with food. I love food and, for the most part, I trust food. However, I still choose to bless my meals, no matter how large or small . . . just in case. I am so not trying to suffer from food.
